What to expect

El Corte Inglés is a Spanish department store group founded in Madrid in 1940 by Ramón Areces and César Rodríguez, growing out of a tailor's shop they bought in 1934. It is the largest department store group in Europe, and the Preciados-Callao store is its branch in the middle of Madrid.

Its departments cover clothing, footwear, accessories, bedding, furniture, jewellery, beauty products and housewares. On the 9th floor of the Preciados-Callao store is the Gourmet Experience, a food hall with gourmet products and several places to eat, including seafood, Asian, Italian and Iberian food, burgers, grilled meat and fish, cheeses, fresh pastries and juices. Even if you are not shopping, the food hall makes a good place for a snack.
